Mixed Media Landscape Workshop series starting Thurs 10th April - 8th May 2-4pm
Join us for a five-week mixed media landscape art series, where we’ll explore different ways of capturing landscapes. Each session begins with outdoor inspiration, followed by studio work using various techniques and materials. We’ll take inspiration from contemporary landscape artists to develop our own creative responses.
Thursday morning Mixed Media sessions starting 10th April - 8th May
Week 1: Expressive Landscapes with Acrylic & Ink
Inspiration: David Hockney’s vibrant landscapes
Activity: Take sketches and photos outside, then return to the studio to create bold, colourful mixed media paintings using acrylic and ink.
Focus: Composition, colour layering, and expressive mark-making.
Week 2: Abstracted Landscapes with Collage & Texture
Inspiration: Barbara Rae’s textured and layered landscapes
Activity: Collect textures and colours from nature, then use collage and mixed media techniques to build an abstracted landscape.
Focus: Layering techniques, paper textures, and mixed media effects.
Week 3: Monoprinting & Experimental Mark-Making
Inspiration: Emma Stibbon’s atmospheric landscape prints
Activity: Use outdoor sketches to develop landscape-based monoprints, incorporating experimental mark-making techniques.
Focus: Printmaking techniques, contrast, and expressive line work.
Week 4: Mixed Media Landscapes with Pastel & Ink Washes
Inspiration: Kurt Jackson’s combination of drawing and washes
Activity: Experiment with soft pastels, charcoal, and ink washes to create expressive landscapes with movement.
Focus: Layering, texture, and expressive linework.
Week 5: Personal Project & Mixed Media Exploration
Inspiration: Contemporary landscape artists (students choose their inspiration)
Activity: Develop a final piece using any of the techniques explored over the course.
Focus: Combining media, personal expression, and creative development.
Contemporary Textiles Workshop Series
Location: Elaine Foster-Gandey Art, 15 Queen St
Time: Thursdays, 10 AM – 12 PM
Cost: £25 per session (all materials included)
A five-week series exploring contemporary textile art, inspired by leading textile artists. Experiment with fabric manipulation, stitching, printmaking, and mixed media techniques to create expressive textile artworks.
Week 1: Textured Textile Collage
Inspiration: Cas Holmes’ layered and stitched textiles
Activity: Use fabric scraps, paper, and stitch to create textured collages inspired by landscapes and nature.
Focus: Layering, hand stitching, and composition.
Week 2: Hand-Stitched Landscape Embroidery
Inspiration: Richard McVetis’ intricate stitchwork
Activity: Create small textile landscapes using hand embroidery techniques.
Focus: Slow stitching, texture, and pattern.
Week 3: Print & Stitch on Fabric
Inspiration: Alice Kettle’s storytelling textiles
Activity: Experiment with printing and stamping on fabric, then add stitch and embellishment for texture.
Focus: Combining print and embroidery techniques.
Week 4: Experimental Fabric Manipulation
Inspiration: Claire Benn’s abstract textile surfaces
Activity: Use heat manipulation, fraying, and layering techniques to create tactile textile surfaces.
Focus: Fabric textures, abstraction, and surface manipulation.
Week 5: Mixed Media Textile Art
Inspiration: Contemporary textile artists chosen by students
Activity: Develop a personal project combining techniques explored in previous weeks.
Focus: Personal expression and mixed media textiles.
